Our office specializes in periodontal procedures which serve as the foundation for beautiful and predictable restorative procedures. In order for the gums to properly heal against the tooth, there must be enough room between the end of the crown or filling and the bone that supports the tooth. This small space allows the gums to attach to the tooth properly.
A tooth that is broken or decayed below the gum line is difficult if not impossible for your dentist to restore properly, and often times has to be removed. If enough space is not present, the filling or cap could trap bacteria, leading to both bone loss and/or the return of decay.
